Many older homes still contain lead-based paint. Do not try to address lead-based paint hazards yourself. Hire a certified lead abatement specialist. Talk to\u00a0 health care provider about blood lead testing if you think your child has been exposed to lead. Reduce risk by wet-mopping, washing hands and toys often, and using cold tap water only. The Department of Housing and Community Development Lead Hazard Reduction Program can remediate and abate lead-based paint hazards for free for eligible families.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div><div homes must be built before 1978 to be considered for the program.<\/li>\n<li>A lead-based paint risk assessment will be conducted to determine the presence and condition of lead-based paint.<\/li>\n<li>A combination of interim controls and abatement will be completed to address the hazards in the home.<\/li>\n<li>All services related to the program are of no cost to the homeowner or occupants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #13294b;\"><strong>Program Eligibility:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Households must be at or below\u00a080% of the area median income.\n<ul>\n<li>Priority is given to children with elevated blood lead levels.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Both renter and owner-occupied homes are eligible for the program.\n<ul>\n<li>In owner-occupied homes:\n<ul>\n<li>a child under age 6 must either live in or visit the homes frequently or<\/li>\n<li>a pregnant woman resides at the home.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/dmz1.dhcd.virginia.gov\/LHREligibility\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"text-decoration: &amp; Critical Needs Grant Program is only available in\u00a0<strong>Virginia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #13294b;\"><strong>Eligibility Requirements<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In order to qualify for SERCAP\u2019s E&amp;CN Grant Program, homeowners\/applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Household Income must be at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level.<\/li>\n<li>Must own and occupy the home, or have lifetime rights.<\/li>\n<li>Property must be located in a rural area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #13294b;\"><strong>Maximum Grant Amounts<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>SERCAP\u2019s E&amp;CN Grant Program will provide grants up to the indicated amount for each of the following critical repairs, replacements, or needs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>$2,400.00 toward Water\/Wastewater Repair Projects<\/li>\n<li>$2,000.00 towards Filtration Systems<\/li>\n<li>$2,000.00 toward Installation of new Water Well (based on required Health Permit)<\/li>\n<li>$2,000.00 toward Tap Fees for Water\/Wastewater (cannot be CDBG Project)<\/li>\n<li>$3,000.00 toward Septic System Construction\/Installation<br \/>\n(based on required Health Permit)<\/li>\n<li>$3,000.00 toward Flood Damage Repair<\/li>\n<li>$5,000.00 toward an Alternative Septic System Construction\/Installation<\/li>\n<li>$5,000.00 Maximum toward Laterals for Water\/Wastewater<\/li>\n<li><strong>$6,500.00 Maximum toward Lead Service-line Replacement<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div><div id=\"panel-518-2-0-2\" class=\"so-panel widget widget_sow-editor
