It is possible that there will be more cases.\u00a0That is because it\u00a0can take up to six weeks for symptoms to develop\u00a0after an exposure.\u00a0For the\u00a0latest\u00a0case counts\u00a0and\u00a0updates, visit\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">WHO\u2019s website<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0or follow WHO on social media.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The\u00a0current outbreak\u00a0is\u00a0caused by a type of hantavirus called\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Andes virus<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Andes virus is unique.\u00a0It is the only hantavirus that has been shown to spread from person to person. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This spread between people is rare <span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW196589582 BCX0\">and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW196589582 BCX0\">has only been shown to occur after<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW196589582 BCX0\">\u00a0people start showing symptoms<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW196589582 BCX0\">.<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW196589582 BCX0\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li>S<span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227533443 class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227533443 BCX0\">)<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227533443 BCX0\">\u00a0due to Andes virus appear 4 to 42 days after exposure<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW227533443 BCX0\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">VDH believes the\u00a0risk of this outbreak to the public\u00a0is\u00a0<\/span><b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">very\u00a0low.<\/span><\/b><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0Virginians\u00a0can\u00a0safely\u00a0continue with their routine travel\u00a0as\u00a0planned.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The federal government\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/press-room\/hhs-supports-repatriation-us-citizens-specialized-care-facilities.html\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">coordinated<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0the return of\u00a018\u00a0U.S. citizens\u00a0who\u00a0were\u00a0on the ship\u00a0on May 11.\u00a0<\/span><span
